  • The Wireless Technology Department is committed to cutting-edge research in wireless technologies. Its mission is to promote wireless technology innovations, so as to develop core technologies for sustainable growth of the mobile communications industry.
    The Wireless Technology Department is conducting research on key wireless technologies to achieve extreme performance of 6G, including new waveform and modulation, extreme massive multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO), integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), and integrated terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication.

  • The Standardization Technology Department has been deeply engaged in the field of 3GPP standardization for many years, with rich technical accumulation and brilliant achievements from 4G LTE to 5G NR.
    The Standardization Technology Department has been committed to promoting technologies and ideas which are beneficial to networks and users into international standards and building a good ecosystem for future mobile communications. At the same time, we actively support the development and experiment of the commercial networks at DOCOMO. We have more than 2,000 international patent applications and hundreds of standard-essential patents (SEPs).

  • The Solution Department focuses on the research and standardization of integrated wireless communication and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Our target is to enhance wireless transmission efficiency through the adoption of AI technologies, thereby effectively reducing the investment and operational costs for operators. Our main research areas encompass the validation and standardization of 5G/6G system together with AI technologies, dedicated to driving innovation and progress in these fields.

  • The AI Technology Department is dedicated to the research and innovation of generation technology (AIGC technology) and its applications related to new business innovations. By leveraging advanced generative technologies such as diffusion models and flow-based generative models, we support new business opportunities and commercial models.

  • The Platform Development Department is dedicated to the development of simulation platforms for 3GPP standardization, key technology research for future wireless communications, and performance optimization of commercial wireless network. Through high-accuracy, high-efficiency, and high-reliability system-level and link-level simulation platforms, we provide one-stop services for performance evaluation of advanced technologies, standardization of key technologies, patent applications, and academic publications.

Research Achievements

  • The Wireless Technology Department has been deeply involved in wireless technology research for many years. It has substantial technical experience, after having been through the 4G and 5G eras, and is currently conducting 6G wireless key technology research, including new waveform and modulation, extreme massive multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO), integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), and integrated terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication. The department has achieved fruitful research progress in the above-mentioned research fields by completing hundreds of international patent applications and publishing dozens of academic papers and won the IEICE Best Paper Award of 2023.

  • The Standardization Technology Department has been deeply engaged in 3GPP standardization for many years, with rich technical accumulation and brilliant achievements from 4G LTE to 5G/5G-Advanced NR.
    DOCOMO Beijing Labs contributes to nearly 30% of the total amount of the 3GPP contributions submitted by DOCOMO during Release15~19. In recent years, DOCOMO Beijing Labs has applied for more than 250 standardization patents annually, and actively contributed to the matching and maintenance of standard-essential patents (SEPs).

  • The Solution Department has accumulated extensive experience in the field of integrated wireless communication and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Currently, we are focusing on research and standardization of AI-integrated technologies for future communications, aiming to support operators in providing high-performance, highly reliable services at lower costs, meeting the dual demands of sustainable development and efficiency improvement.
    In terms of research, the Solution Department focuses on the following areas: intelligent air interface technologies, such as beam management, channel status information (CSI) feedback, channel estimation; and intelligent wireless control technologies, such as mobility management.

  • Through technology R&D and the fruits of innovation, the AI Technology Department actively supports headquarters’ related business development. In the field of natural language processing, Chinese normalization technology and news summarization have received a high degree of recognition and kudos from headquarters.

  • With regards to platform construction, the Platform Development Department has established a unified simulation pool consisting of more than one hundred high-performance simulation servers, an automated simulation job management and scheduling system, as well as a real-time simulation resource utilization monitoring system to ensure efficient evaluation work.
