The company currently has a Wireless Technology Department, an AI Technology Department, and a Platform Development Department. The three research departments work together to compose movements in our 5G and AI symphonies.

    The Wireless Technology Department is committed to cutting-edge research, standardization, and solutions for wireless technologies. With wireless technology innovation as its mission, it covers many fields.
    In recent years, the Wireless Technology Department has been dedicated to 5G standardization and 5G trials, establishing DOCOMO's leading position among telecommunication operators, and successfully promoting multiple DOCOMO 5G network deployment wills with standardization support. At the same time, standardization experts from the Wireless Technology Department have actively led technical discussions on 3GPP and advanced the entire 3GPP standardization process. Its participation topics have included NR MIMO, channel coding, scheduling and control, flexible duplexing, IoT and cellular-assisted vehicular networks. Currently, the Wireless Technology Department is actively conducting B5G pre-research work, and has made progress in the research and development of several key technologies including NOMA, millimeter wave, and full duplex.

    The AI Technology Department is dedicated to the research and development of computer vision and natural language processing technologies related to new business innovation.
    The department is focused on the application of artificial intelligence technology to research and innovation in the areas of mobile internet and big data, and supporting new services and new business models through advanced technologies such as deep learning. The current work revolves around innovative research on the four levels of theory, technology, platforms and applications, and is focused on the areas of computer vision and natural language processing, as well as their combination with wireless communication networks. It strives to generate disruptive innovations in the basic theory and key technologies of artificial intelligence, and actively promote the cross-integration of artificial intelligence technology and wireless communication networks to make computers more beneficial for humanity.

  • PFD

    The Platform Development Department is dedicated to 3GPP standardization, new functions of wireless network and services, and artificial intelligence-related platforms and systems development.
    The department develops and maintains system-level and link-level simulation platforms for wireless communication system technology research. It provides one-stop services for the pre-research evaluation of advanced technologies, advancing the standardization of key technologies and the optimized selection of network deployment, and it provides comprehensive support for patent applications, article publication and technical reports.
    The department develops and maintains simulation platforms for new wireless services and new applications. It supports the development and innovation of big data-driven businesses and applications, and based on data mining and machine learning, provides relevant modeling, optimization and evaluation support for various business applications such as image understanding and retrieval, and natural language processing.

  • Fully participated in the standardization of 5G NR Release 15 and promoted the 3GPP process on behalf of DOCOMO

  • Joined the IMT-2020 C-V2X working group to promote technical exchanges between China and Japan in vertical industries

2018
  • As reported by DOCOMO on a demonstration of drone project, AI technology developed by the company was applied in the automatic analysis of captured images in this project
